The Story behind the Poster
I was a brand new 2nd Lt. in 1973 and was assigned to Ft. Knox as the assistant Station of Choice Officer. (The #1 guy was a 1st Lt. showing the amount of command emphasis placed upon the program.) No one in the military remembered a time without a draft so we were almost universally ignored. We had no budget, but we did have the training aids department on post and they are the ones who printed the poster.
The young soldier was a classmate of mine from The Citadel and we found the young lady at the Officer Club pool. (There was a second young lady who chickened out at the last minute. ) The original proposed tag line was "Come to Ft. Knox for a Piece of the Action" But Gen. Starry vetoed that in favor of "At Ft. Knox..."
The poster was picked up by the wire services UPI and AP and appeared in every major newspaper and magazine that spring. Resulting in millions of dollars in free advertizing.
The more conservative elements of the US Army concluded it would be safer if I was sent somewhere far away. That is how I ended up in Korea.

Just happened to see this string. I have this poster framed in my pub. Stan Sheridan gave it to me who I believe you knew very well Dr George. He thought it might the only one left or one of just a couple?
TankerTab; That's great! We printed 5000 of them but only a few got distributed. Most were thrown in the trash. I know Gen. Stary Post commander got one but I never did. Where are you located, I'd love to see it!
In Michigan. He told me most were destroyed before distribution. He gave it to me when I was leaving as the ARMOR mag editor. He said he and another guy had come up with the idea. You must have been the "other guy." We had become pretty good friends and he knew I would appreciate all facets of its subject matter!
I'm trying to place him.. Did Stan work in the Station of Choice office? Do you remember his rank?
There was an NCO in the Training Aids department who was key in getting things done..
He might have been a Captain at the time? Or a 1LT. Not sure of the office. He did claim to have been involved in its creation though. He retired as a Major General though. He was much older than me . I did not meet him until well after he retired.
Well... when something works everyone takes credit....lol.. He certainly did better than I did. I retired as a simple Captain. :-) Generally much too creative for the Army. Well, I am glad someone has a copy. If not the last, certainly one of the very few. I would love to see it if you have an inclination. George
