Rare and beautiful Emile Galle Owl from around 1900. One can be viewed in the painting depicting Galle at work in his studio and another in a awesome photograph taken of the display around the glory hole glass furnace. It is about 12 inches tall and high fired stoneware with a gloss flambe glaze. There was a model featured in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle, Paris. This was the same year the the Eiffel Tower was completed.
Une merveille! What a fabulous glaze! Are they glass eyes? Thanks for sharing this one, FLEDERMAUS!
Yes, intense aren't they.
I was wondering who was my overbidder! I had a chance to see this in person in Asheville. You broke my heart...but now I know it has a wonderful home.
Woops sorry! How did it get up here to an NJ auction. I think it was a very good price. I have another owl by Rambervillers that I will display it with. Just love it. I am creating a large owl vessel myself and it is funny that I came across this one now. I will post the other one. It's eyes glow with a light inside. Thanks for your bid on the lustre harpy.
Regards
