This is an original engraving that appeared in the July 1888 issue of “Harper’s Young People.” Let’s face it, the image is silly. I’m unsure of the storyline, but a prim photographer with a bellows field camera is in the woods being tormented by squirrels, raccoons, and lots of bears.
My wife collects antique bear items ... Vienna bronzes, Audubon images, Steiff, etc ... so this engraving was a natural crossover for our respective collections of bears and pre-1900 cameras.
The artist wasn’t all that good in drawing bears; they look like giant rats. Yet overall it’s funny. Bears fighting. Bears rummaging through the beleaguered photographer’s stuff. Bears hamming it up with odd poses.

Thanks, vetraio50!
Perhaps the artist had never seen a bear, as the squirrels & raccoons look very lifelike, still it's an interesting image.
