This is a 1773 newspaper, specificly the maryland journal and the baltimore advertisier. About a year ago, I took the newspaper out of the sleave, a once in a life time (becasue it's so fragile) thing, to take some pictures of the newpaper, and these are the pics. What makes this newspaper interesting, is that it's volume 1, and this is no. 1. So it's the first of the newspaper. If your a history buff, you probably know that George Washington was a surveyer before he became general for the continetal army, later the president. And there's an ad for lots of land in the ohio valley, and becasue of the proclamation of 1763, no one was allowed to settle in land west of the apalation mountains, so this could be a early sign of rebel from the brittish, and it's written by George Washington! I don't know about you, but I just get shivers up my spine when i'm holding a piece of history like that. The pictures are big enough to read the newspaper it self. Ther's also a ad for a runaway slave on the back.
Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing!
That's awesome! Howd you come across it? How much?
I found it in a old box of newspapers, on the bottom at an estate sale. The newspapers were as new as 1923. I knew if I just brought the guy the 1773 newspaper, he would drive the price high, so I bought the entire box for 5 bucks. Thank you greed. :(
What a great piece of history. Nice pick.
thats one cool piece of history, dude.how long have you had that
COCA : Very nice find, when handling your paper try to use cotton gloves.
This can be preserved, not sure of the method but it seems to me would be worth the effort.
Wow. That's pretty much a museum piece. Take good care of it!
Believe it or not, I just found a copy of this same paper in my family's archives. If you don't mind me asking, how are you planning to preserve it? Do you know what it is worth?
