Is this white cast metal? It looks to me like it came off a Indian motorcycle dealer sign.....
It is cast metal. I'd love to see a complete sign with this on it. The bases were mounted on a curved surface.
The sign idea was just a thought. It could of came off a Indian motorcycle front fender!
But IMO, It could be worth some Bucks!!!!

Not automotive, I'm pretty familiar with hood ornaments. I'd say it's Indian motorcycle related, but maybe an aftermarket item sold through cycle shops.

Do a Google Image search for Indian Motorcycle head, lots of similar images. Might put you on the right path to matching it up to what it actually was for.
I don't what it came off of but I like it.
About two foot is pretty big for a motorcycle fender even an Indian. The only Indian head type devices I've ever seen for the bike fenders was a light the head dress is metal and the face was plastic. I'm leaning toward a car hood ornament.
Could be for an old Pontiac.

I agree with YardSaleDave, this is Not automotive! I still beleve it's made as a Dealer (only) Sign for Indian Motorcycles! For Showroom Display!
If this was mine, I would find a big front motorcycle fender to mount it on & hang it on the wall...! That would look cool....
It is possible that this is an aftermarket piece for the "Rat Rod" car builders in California. When I said it's not automotive, it's not OEM original stock. One of these sold on Ebay in 2006 according to Worthpoint.

Not long. He paints antique bikes and for the Good Guys, and a guy that buys and sells on Barrett's. He remembered in from one of the many catalog's he has. He said Oh that's an aluminum fender blah blah, and found it right away.
I think it is off of an indian motorcycle or a pontiac there are lots of hood ornaments like that.

If it is bike and If you know where the whole or even part of the bike is like a rusted empty frame you may have a chunk of money.
As a single finder fin there is desire for it amoung indian owners/restorers that want them but as an item to sell there is no money in the indian head it self.
Everyone just gets a reproduction of it for the bike they own and that is that.
An owner of a bike or car that would like for their bike to be more original may want it but as something that raises the value of the motorcycle, it does not do as much as one would hope so not much cash to hope for but be nice and find an original auto to send it home to.
According to Worthpoint, the one that sold in 2006 went for $145. The the the that's all folks !!!!!!!!!

Oh except one thing for Worthpoint. That one was sold on Ebay and he didn't know what it was. If he didn't have the right key words it could of gone for much cheaper then it's worth

Heres my 2 cents if anybody is still interested,its not an indian MC item the quality,lack of P/N and length is a dead give away, if its 22in. thats about half way around the fender and the way its mounted noway the site you listed sezs not verified so they don't know eather.But if it dates back to the 40s (no matter what it is)and it verywell maybe somebodys looking for it.I vote for the sign idea and if its a indian dealer sign somebody with deep pockets is looking for it.Goodluck with your research

I just now seen the item on ebay,15 bids $204.00 but "indian hood ornament"?sounds like a counterdiction.I guess theres 15 people somewhere that know something about it.
I have the exact same indian head ornament and have been wondering what it is off of for about 15 years. I had an indian dealer wanting it for his show room. Mine is in great condition as well. I also so the one one on Worthpoint but it was slighly damaged. I found mine in a old barn.
I have had one of these for about 16 years. Bought a box of stuff at an auction and it was in with the rest of it all. Once again searching for it brought me here. This finally lead me to the solution to our mystery :)

OK, I guess I'm a member now- I'm posting this to solve your mystery for all the people who google it and scroll down through these comments. I have one of these and it took me over a year to find out what it is. The ornament is not related to Indian Motorcycles, but to Indian Trailer Corporation. The company produced travel trailers from the 30s to the 50s, as far as I can confirm. The ornament was mounted on their Cheiftan model trailer, made around 1948 to around 1955. It may have been on other models. However, some Ebay sellers have vintage ads for sale featuring pictures of the ornament in ads for the 1948 Indian travel trailer.
