Sanderson (Houghton) | Junior | 1903 |Hand Camera | 5x4 inch Plate | Leather Covered. |
In early 1900s Britain, this was the only camera to have if you wanted to do architectural work.....and if you could afford it! Serial Number 4944 gives a date of 1903. Rather superior Taylor Taylor Hobson Convertible lens has an interchangeable rear element giving two focal lengths of F:7in. and F:9in., so the Bausch & Lomb Unicum Shutter has two aperture scales, and the baseboard has two focusing scales. A very good example of its kind. They didn't come any better, though there were lots of imitators.

Thanks Rob! You will observe that the AMERICAN Bausch & Lomb shutter was the best available in the world at the time, so they weren't afraid to use it. British lens, though!
Yep ... I saw the B&L shutter and have been surprised at how many appear on early British cameras. - Rob
