So this is my last posting about mourning jewelry. Yesterday we had a special holiday here in Belgium, its called 'Allerzielen'. Its a day in which we remember all our beloved ones who have died.
This is my collection simple mourning earrings. They are all silver, some of them have fish hooks, but most of them are earclips. Not much people had pierced ears back in the time.
Most of them are jet, two pairs are French jet (=black glass). Some of these earrings are made in Paris. Some of them could be made here in Belgium (we speak French and Dutch here). I love how even these simple earrings have some decoration on them. I m not sure if all of them are old. I think these might be made well into the 1950's or even later.
Can anyone help me with the makers mark you see in the third picture (the one under 'Paris')? I see B, F and some sort of branch between these two letters. Does anyone know that maker? Thanks a lot!
They are all beautiful.
That's All Souls day here in US. I did not know of these earrings for the occasion. Are they somehow identified as mourning earrings or can it be any black earring?
Thanks for posting these
Thanks DrFluffy and AzTom for loving my earrings.
AzTom, these are really mourning earrings.
Jet is a material which was often used for mourning jewelry. On some of their cards you can reads 'deuil seri', which is French for 'mourning set'.
Thanks Agram and valentino for loving my earring collection!
