    (584 items)

This hand-blown decanter and its two matching glasses belong to the UNDA range, designed by Alfredo Häberli. This series has been released by the German Berendsohn company within their Blue Line Collection.

This Blue Line collection was released as a environmentally conscious range of items. For instance, talking about the UNDA range they say that the consumption of tap water could reduce the use of glass or PET bottles long term and avoid long transport routes, and that this is the idea from which raised this glass collection. Also, they claimed that the items will be mostly distributed within Germany, so they can guarantee their high quality standards , avoiding long transport routes and thus reducing C02 emissions significantly.
Well… all of this is very nice but… may I say it all sounds like a lot of nice talking to sell more items to enviromentally conscious consumers?

In any case I’ve posted this set to talk about the design, not about the company’s sales policies and marketing strategies…
The set comes in two colours: gray and this light blue. I have also seen another design for the glasses, broader on their bottom and top and narrower on the middle, so they can be easily griped and besides they would complement the glasses I’m displaying here in the same way I’ve arranged the glasses and decanter on pic No.3.

By the way, this design won an Honourable Mention at the 2013 edition of the Red Dot Design Awards.

Beautiful blue, and love how they nestle in to the taller piece. How many fit around the decanter? Five? Six? More?
Environmentally we have to make sure that our tap water is potable!
Surely that is the challenge too!

Nice retro-design from 2013!!! I think this elegant and simple retro style sells quite good today. I have seen other glass series, sold by Stockholm design house, also in retro 1960s design (procuced i China). Why do not Orrefors-Kosta/Boda take up this retro style too? It's quite cheap to produce, and I do not think it would have to be so much more expensive than the China-produced?

Well, Ulrika Hydman designed a drinking set in more or less that style (I think -not 100% sure about it- it's the MINE range, but I cannot find the decanter anywhere, but I've seen it before). At some point it reminded me too much of Anna Ehrner "Contrasts" series but at some point it totally lacked an air of quality or even style (I even think -my guess- it was a commission from within KostaBoda to try and adapt this succesful Ehrner's designs to an utilitarian design...).

But as we have talked before, both companies seem to be too focused in "arty" glass, perhaps forgetting about sales.

By the way, did you see Bertil Vallien's decanter from the "Chateau" range? It looks nice BUT 135 euros for it is simply too much... plus the rest look too classic.
