Today I have the idea to show you something special namely this mourning brooch although in my opinion. To see depicted an altar in pearl with candle, a canopy, flowers and twigs. On the canopy seem, looking through a magnifier, two birds on both sides. The oval picture behind glass, is bordered by a rim of small pearls. The front edge of the brooch is nicely decorated with very little "sparklers" and the mounting is 14ct (Dutch carat) rose gold. The back pin and c-clasp is vermeil either gold over silver.
The brooch can probably open because there is a kind of groove in the edge but I dare not good to try because I'm afraid something damaging. The brooch has, seen from the side, also a special form wide at both ends and small in the middle section.
The last photo I show you some of my mourning pieces.
All in all I've never seen such a piece. I either don't know dating.

Very nice brooch. As you say, very unusual.
You have a very nice collection mourning jewelry!
Newtimes thanks for your nice comment and loving. Mourning jewelry intrigues me I do not know why. Maybe because I want to know who the deceased was and how their life has expired. The history of jewelry and the man behind the jewelry.
Manikin thanks for loving
My guess on the date would be around 1850, maybe even a bit earlier.
