Here's a very good sized planter i picked up the other day. can anyone tell me anything about it? old? new? i'm pretty certain that this is japanese and it may be old. the hole in the bottom is a large keyhole design, which i've never seen before. i should have gotten a picture of the bottom. this type of pottery is called Martaban Brown, but i don't know much more about it than that.
I have wall hanging with cranes like those, but it is Japanese! Really beautiful! You should banzai a redwood tree!
thank you toracat. maybe it is Japanese?? does anyone know what kind of pottery it is and where it's from?
can anyone tell me what kind of pottery this is? i've had some of it before, but i can't remember what it's called.
i answered my own question. it's called martaban brown, but i don't know much more than that.
thank you idcloisonne. i got another one exactly like it the other day so now i have a lovely pair of them! i'm surprised that you think it's Japanese. it looks so much like some other Chinese planters i've seen.
i don't know how old mine are - they are pretty shiny to be very old, but they are definitely the same family of pottery.
ho2 , you have some beauties!!! ;@)
thanks SEAN68!
