It is about 15" long. Blade about 12". Gets thinner at the middle and the tip appears to be the widest are.
I was going to sell it for a few hundred dillars offeeed but an expert on Japanese swords tild me it was really a spear tip ( I thought it was a short sword).
He told me the writing on the hilt gives the artists or makers name, the era and the provence it was created. He said it was pre showa, very old and not polished down so condition is good. He claimed its value was in excess of a thousand dollars and that I should not sell it but showbit to experts to get the history of the piece.
Can anyone give me more information about this.
Ron, Yep that's a spear tip used by the Japanese foot troop for centuries. Hard to tell who signed it but it looks in good condition. The last pic I see openings in the metal which means it's on one hand, hand made. However those are kizu (defects) the more there are the less value it holds to collecters. You can hit me up at okinawarelics@yahoo.com with more pictures if you want and I could tell you more.
