Who could not love the Duke? This is kind of exciting...I got in touch with the Ellington Society but don't seems to be getting anywhere. I have a couple of very old and rare acetates of the Duke, live recording at the Empire Room, LA, in Feb 1949 (after hours). I have done lots of research and it was confirmed that the Duke was there and playing although there was a recording ban at the time. The one acetate is a recording of him playing "S'posin" which I understand there is no known recording. Not sure what to do, whether to sell it which I know could be invaluable or donate, but I like the first option. Thereforth it is tucked carefully away. There are no scratches on it and is in excellent condtion, but I do not have the equipment to play it. Any suggestions? I was told that I need to do something into a different format before it could dessintagrate,
My deceased husband was and avid jazz collector during the 40 -50-60, some 70. He lived the day and loved. Our entire collection has been recorded onto reel to reel, but not the acetates. Apparently 60 years ago before tape recorders, there was a device that had 2 needles. One for recording and one for play back, thereforth you could go to a concert and record the music and then listen to it at home. Anyway, that is all for now.

With out a doubt a real treasure. I would contact the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Here is the website...

If they deem it important enough you could "Loan" it to them. They should be able to preserve it.

Thanks for the info, I sent them an email. This is not totally on the topic, but can anyone tell me all ebay vinyl sales don't seem to appear on Jazz Collector. I recently sold a 12" Blue Note for over $1500 (2 weeks ago) on ebay and there has been no mention?

I have no idea. Why don't you take pictures of some of your great records and share them with us? !
