These four 26 cm Rocket vases are produced for the 50th anniversary of SEA glassworks in 2006. It was made in two sizes for the anniversary, 26 cm and 15 cm. The lower model has not the colored underlay down in the bottom, it stops where the bulge ends as you can see in the second photo. It was made in four colors: yellow amber, smoke grey, amethyst and blue.

The designer is Inge Samuelsson, and the year of release I think is earley 1960s. But I'm not sure about that, hope someone can help me to confirm the right year? Samuelsson is one of three who started SEA glassworks in 1956. The other was Sven Ernstsson and Tore Andersson. The name SEA was achieved by combining the first letter of the last name of the three owners. But glass production at the mill had been around since 1953, when Ekeberga glassworks was founded at the site just outside Kosta. They made most raw glass for further refinement of the company Dekor-Etching in Kosta. In 1956, Samuelsson/Ernstsson/Andersson bought Ekeberga glassworks and started up new manufacturing there. Inge Samuelsson was not only one of the owners, but also worked as designer for SEA. The Rocket vase was one of his most sucsessful models, and I think the design stands up well even in these days.

Sea Glassworks are nowdays a brand company in the New Wave Group. Orrefors and Kosta-Boda are also brand companys in this group. Production at SEA stopped after 2007, and today all their glass are produced in other countries. But these four anniversary Rocket vases are blown by hand in SEA outside Kosta, before 2007. I don't think they have been produced outside Sweden at all. I bought them today in the outlet store at the old SEA glassworks, where they sold out the last stock for 19 sw.kr (2,68 USD) each!!! List price 2007 was about 250 sw.kr.

Quite a bargain ..... Ten bucks for four 26 cm vases!
As a group they work well together too.
Thanks for the update on the New Wave Group too, rebessin!
