Second World War 78th Infantry Division helmet.

This is a mid WWII US M1 helmet from the 78th "Lightening" Infantry Division, 310th Infantry Regiment.

The 78th Infantry Division got its distinctive name during the First World War, which is reflected in its red and yellow semi-cirlce unit patch. During WWII the division was a Training Division before being deployed to the ETO in 1944, seeing action during the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany. In May 1945 the Division took up occupation duties and was deactivated. The Division once again serves the US Army as a Training Division.

The helmet is a front seamed Schlueter helmet with swivel bales and sewn on chinstraps, as one would expect for a mid-war helmet. The liner is an International Molded Plastics and has the decals of the Division and Regiment on each side.

This is an interesting helmet and a favourite.
