Jules Sarlandie (1874-1936) enamel on copper bowl, French, circa 1930. The bowl (5" diameter by 3.5" tall) is decorated with three mystical white beasts and plants.
I am not at all sure what the decoration is supposed to represent.
The Feng Shui philosophy makes constant reference to a series of symbolic animals that stand for specific features favorable to creating a natural space. One of these animals is the White Tiger. According to this philosophy, the White Tiger’s Ch'i or energy flow/life force represents strength, energy and courage but is unpredictable and can be disruptive.
