A recent find a pair of what I believe are US WW2 era service hats. Im hoping someone can help me ID them as far as branch period rank or any other information. The hat with patch is marked Cap, Gar WL AG-44 100% wool W.P.L 5889 and looks to have silk lining with a 2 in it also Sz 7. The larger hat which is marked Cap, Service, Wool AG-44 Modified 100% wool WPL 4186. If you could help with info thanks.

Green color identifies these as post WW2.

Army Green was the standard from the late 1950s until recently.

Full tag may have date # on it.

The Garrison cap (flat one) has the oval patch for Airborne units.

I would think that the "64" represents 1964.

Certainly not WWII because I wore them in the 1960's and they hadn't been in use that long. Scott is right about them being dress greens and they are both enlisted mens hats. You can still pick them up at surplus stores and flea markets.
