Trash Pile Find!!! We have a antique (1800's?)Bureau trunk with 3 drawers (Knotty Pine??) with metal handles. There is a secret comparment under the bottom drawer. (Mouse Holes Built-In) The trunk is unique for the fact it has 2 doors (Right door has damage) instead of a lift up lid or top. The right door has a top & bottom lock. The trunk has ornate metal fixtures with some kind of silver coating, (which is peeling off). The trunks construction is mostly wood, with 2" wood strips. The corners and bottom have sheet metal over wood. It also has 4 small casters or wheels. The leather handles are missing. (Will update with measurements later). Any known information about this antique trunk would be helpful and appreciated. Also suggestions concerning restoration or leave original........ Thanks
Hi, 3 rd & 4th pic are the right side and the back of our special trunk...Any help with id would be very much appreciated..Is there any way to post more than 4 pics of same item? We are new to this website..:)...Thks
Can you show the back and the left side of the trunk. please.
Never saw one like this before. I wonder if someone has it in one of the old advertisments. What a great find!
Thank You...We are hoping someone can id it for us..Thanks for looking at the special trunk....
The trunk in it's self appears to be old and so do the shelves. The selves were probably added at a later time.
It could of been a special build, but if someone had the much money to modify the trunk, they would of upgraded the hardware. Or they did the upgrade themselves. To save money.
The trunk looks to made around the 1890. A common trunk for this time period. They were made by different company's. It's hard to pinpoint when it was made. Without a front lock or company name. Even that would be a guesstimate.
Any way you look at it. This is a unique trunk and a great find.
Based on only my guessing, I imagine this was a traveling work station. Perhaps a kitchen on a wagon..but there would be stains, or a tool chest for some type of light work. My grandmother told me of the rag man that would come by the house and collect or sell rags and offer his skill for other type of needed home repair.
Hi all...Thanks for all your comments on our "found" trunk..Sure wish it had a name or even one lock to help id....Maybe someone has an advertisment that will help with id..Have a Merry Christmas to You & Yours.....
