I picked this up in a thrift store. As you can see by the top half of the picture, someone painted it white a long time ago. The bottom half shows the chest restored by removing all the white paint and re-staining it. I have no idea if it's Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc. and I have no idea what its age is. I just love it. It measures 27" wide by 12.5" deep by 15.5" tall.

I do not know how you got all that paint off but if you have a special trick I would love to know it. Thanks. You saved a beauty.

Removal of the paint was a pain.....and I used a lot of swear words aimed at the person who painted it originally. I used a strong stripper (gel form, not liquid) applying it to a small area, letting it sit for 15 min, then using a stiff wire brush to loosen the paint. I used rags to clean off the stripper/paint goo then reapplied another coat of stripper and repeated the process. The wire brush and stripper were the key materials used to get rid of the white paint. I even used mineral spirits to help make the removal of the stripper goo easier too. It took me 3 weeks to do the entire chest and was a pain in the gazzintas to do but, in the end, was well worth it. Once the entire chest was done, I then stained it the same color it was originally. I still have to apply a coat of satin finish polyurathane or varnish. I hope this helps you. Thank you so much for commenting on it.
