    This is a First World War British Royal Navy ERA4's (Engine Room Artificier) peak cap dating to 1915, attributed to an ERA who served with the Dover Patrol during the First World War. He was part of the Civil Branch as can be noted from the gold anchor.

    The cap is typical of such early Royal Navy examples, having quite a stubby appearance. The cap badge is the same as that worn by Petty Officers although the different between those worn by ERA was the anchor ground colour, in this case being purple.

      Lovely hat! Amazing condition for WWI vintage. How did you attribute it? Is there a name inside? Feel free to post more pics!

      Thanks Lance. The cap is initialled and is part of other uniform items, as well as photos with a name and address. A little research from that revealed his service record. I will post some more photos in a while.
