Trying to find out information about this bowl. My Father used it during his time as a POW with the Japanese. Where is it from, and what are/is/do the marks on the bottom mean???

Thanks for your reply jwendell222, but I am even now a bit more confused. The British Museum tells me it is late 19th century Chinese, but could give me no more info, so I started searching thru websites, and came across one site which showed a bowl with the same mark/figure on the outside rim of the bowl as in second picture. That bowl was Ming. My Father "obtained" the bowl from the house of a prominent person in Jakarta after he was taken prisoner. I seem to recall him telling me it was in a display case, and had a notation that it was from a shipwreck. This was in 1946. I keep searching I guess. Thanks again though.
Happy with that Jim. Also it was in 1942, not 1946. Much appreciated.

Thanks Jim,
At http://www.ancientpoint.com under Asian Antiques >China Bowls there is a 17thc Ming Dynasty Blue and White Fish Plate Bowl. This is the one which has the outside rim marking very, very similar to that on my centre photo.

Cripes Jim ....you're a hard marker!! :) I still haven't seen ANY bowl or plate with similar markings on the outside rim. The other thing I am looking at for help in identifying the bowl is the "grecian" type marking which runs around the the inside top edge. The search continues, hey?? Merry Christmas to you ..... and to all who use/operate this site.
Regards Peter
Jim..... I'd like to use an old Aussie expression of frustration here ...... but I will control myself. I don't see how I'm going to be able to "pinpoint" the actual beginnings of this bowl ...... or even get close to it. I guess that is perhaps the exciting mystique about this stuff. The search, at least from my side, will go on.
Once again, I thank you for your interest and assistance.
Peter
