Union soldier in Occupied Richmond c. 1865

This is a CDV from the immediate post Civil War occupation of Richmond, VA.

The soldier wears a standard Union four button sack coat. He has chosen Rees to make his photograph. Rees is one of the most highly regarded Southern photographers of the era. His images of Confederate soldiers are highly desirable.

Photographer has applied a Revenue Tax stamp to the back along with a cancellation date of "Sept 1st", which dates this photograph to 1 SEP 1865.
