This is a family painting and I know who's house it was and where it was located ( http://hannahbrownskinner.blogspot.com/) .

What I am interested in finding out is who might have painted it. Was having your house painted a common thing or a luxury thing? Am I correct about the age?

      Nice looking painting.

Was it cleaned recently? The sky looks bright and fresh. Is it on canvas or board?

An additional photo of the back may be helpful.

      Thanks. I just love it.

It is on canvas. I had it cleaned, restored, re-framed (the old frame was obscuring part of the caption) at an affiliate of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Some of the paint was flaking off and I was afraid it would deteriorate further.

The back is encased in paper now. I guess I should have taken a picture "before" of the back. The framer kept a view window on the back for the handwritten "provenance" -- previous owners wrote their names on the back in pencil. I might have a picture.
