They told me this is a hand-carved into a gorgeous scene with a Magnificient Greyhound scene from the late 1800's. One finest & beautifully carved Ivory/Bone Brooches I've ever seen, this beautiful Greyhound stand upon a rocky outcrop with lovely mossy around him. The outer frame is sculpted into a gracefully scrolling 3-dimensinal design associated with the Victorian Era. It is a lovely natural ivory color with a soft age patina. Splendidly accented with leafy accents all around its pretty flowing framework. A truly rare & enchanting Georgian/ early Victorian Treasure. The artist was wonderfully skilled to have achieved such delicate openwork !Even the ribs of the dog are visible! The hound's legs are only the width of a single millimeter (!!!)
And this exquisite Antique Brooch measures 1.6"(4.1 cm.) tall, with its original 2-piece "C" clasp that screws directly into the back.
Very well cared for through more than a century, it is in Excellent Condition !
I leave two photos (number 3 and 4) taken by a loupe number 3 the Greyhound and number four seen from the back. It feels smooth and soft, and there are not really seen little holes as often in bone cavities.
My my question to you: "Is this brooch bone or Ivory? Please your opinion"!!!
After so much reactions also on Facebook and looking again under a magnifier I came to the conclusion this brooch is made of some kind of bone. An Ivory specialist told me probably dated 1800s or early 1900s!

valentino97, thanks for your loving and comment. But sold as a posh ski resort seems to me not very likely because this brooch is made in the late 19th - early 19th century. Your last supposition would certainly be true.

I've seen quite a few similar pieces here but not with a greyhound, which makes me think of England but they could be found elsewere ofcourse. The ones I have seen has been with a raindeer and made of bone, not ivory. I will look in a digital museum for you when I get the time, see if I can find more info. Your piece is really beautiful. I think you're right about the date.
