I acquired this at an auction. I do not know the age but when taking the print out there was newspaper behind the print dated 1909. I would like to know the age and artist. Any help would be great, if any questions please ask. Thanks.
Forgot to mention the frame looks period to the print. Also how would I go about getting this cleaned and restored? Thanks Guys!!
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
In the late 1800's-early 1900's traveling salesman would go door to door, farm to farm, house to house to sell prints such as these . They would be held in catalogs/ binders that the home owner could peruse and chose the appropriate print. They would also be shown styles of frames that they could frame their print with. They were quite inexpensive at the time and by the large amount of religious prints in flea markets, second hand stores and consignment stores, there obviously were many of these sold. You will probably not be able to find out who the artist is or who printed this particular print but I find it quite interesting. It's the first time I see this one. RER(BOB)
Thanks for the help. Do you think this one is rare?
I live in Canada...the most common ones are the sacred heart of Jesus, the guardian angel and the crucifixion. It might be rare here but common elsewhere. I really don't know. RER (BOB)
