Just bought this and don't have any history on it. Does anyone recognize it or could anyone give me advise on where I can start my search?

Thanks for the post -- the picture is a small format so I cannot zoom in for a closer look. I will say that it appears to be a nice dome top trunk, however there were many made in this style and form at the time by a myriad of makers and without a label or any identifying marks you will be hard pressed to get any info, on this trunk. Usually the locks or hardware have patent dates on them so that might help get idea of age although to me it looks like an 1890's style and make. Someone did a nice job of refinishing it. Great trunk!!

Welcome to CW melb & we have some really knowledgeable trunk people here. I like old trunks & learning from them & wondering which one I should award a Spandex hero costume to. Take some digital pics and you can submit 4 with a puter so they can be magnified. T-Mon is right. Good restoration.

Great round top trunk-- it looks good. I would agree that it is very late 19th century.

Here is a good site to get some additional information:

Thanks for the comments. I've re-posted some pics. The only markings I found were the ones in the pics. The latch looks like it has PAT Mar16 stamped, and the other is obviously an "S".

I'm not a professional, but it doesn't look like any restoring has been done to it. All the hardware and metal including the small wheels on the bottom look original.

Lucky you! Actually, it didn't look like a restoration to me but just figured I was wrong. If it is, it is expert.

I agree, the trunk has not been "restored". However, it had a covering at one time (looks like it was leather), and someone finished the wood underneath. All the slat clamps (steel and cast iron) still have some of the original Tin coating on them. "Tinned" hardware was more expensive than "Japanned" (an oil based coating that was heated until the metal turned Black) hardware. I have (and still am) done a lot of research on that "S" marking. I believe it to be the name of JH Sessions, a major manufacturer and supplier of trunk parts.
I just completed a major list of trunk makers which includes over 400 makers. All makers listed have an accompanying picture of their label or an advertisement. You can view this on my website, HMSantiquetrunks.com
Here is a link to the list. http://hmsantiquetrunks.com/201827.html
      Thank you,
      Jim
