This is an old Baush & Laumb camera item with a lens and a light in it, any ideas what it is called and the date of this piece? I would say about the turn of the century, It is with the Jules A Bourquin, of Horton, Kansas items I have

I think it was used to project glass slides ..but not sure ,its looks like one I saw but it used a candle ...

This is a lantern slide projector as opposed to a camera. The earliest models used quicklime as a light source (the same as used for lighting actors on stages and hence the expression "in the Limelight", BTW). Some of these were converted to electricity. Later models were wired for bulbs.

The Bausch and Lomb name probably refers to the maker of the optics. As far as dating, unfortunately it is very difficult because advertisements are confusing and the designs didn't change much over the years.

      Hi Deanteaks,
Looks like a Bausch & Lomb "Balopticon" Model B Magic Lantern, patented 1911. Here's and interesting link:

Chadakoin ... nice work on finding a reference! It really does look like the same projector.

Awesome! it makes alot of sence to me now :) and I have hundreds of glass negatives from bourquin to look at, I had a bunch get stolen recently and I found them being sold on ebay for 9.99 each by a local man and his wife in 2012, just sad to se them out of my collection :( not sure what to do about that yet! Thank You, rniederman, Chadakoin, and Windwalker

I have the screen that goes with it, it is folded in the box, not sure of the size yet, article says it should be rolled up like a map
