There is a term for people who have thrift addictions and can't find anything, so they just buy something. It is called "Empty Hand Syndrome".
I am suffering with this affliction, badly. I have literally been on 40 or so thrift runs without finding a single thing...well sort of.

I knew that this was a Bjorn Winblad the moment I saw it. Finally! I thought...but...there is a chip...

Aladin series VIII, where Aladin's Mom brings the Sultan fruit from the magical garden...(okay how cool does that sound?) Actually google around at the cool pictures from this series, they show great imagination.

Anyway, bought a chipped plate for a dollar. Hand was too empty...

Funny about the "Empty Hand Syndrome"... We should do a series of posts by CWers, showcasing their worst EHS purchases :0)
I have a bunch of crappy jewelry because of EHS.... :)
This plate is pretty though :)

Hello Doctor, it gets worse...look at my next post. It's snowing like crazy here, so can't even go on a sanity run.

Doc , those empty hand syndromes can be very nice!!

It's better to have EHS than JUNKtivitis, a severe inflammation of the hands & eyes, highly contagious , resulting symptoms can cause severe clutter of yard & home. This is almost incurable as most who succumb to this ailment are unwilling to seek help.

OMG Walksoftly! I laughed out loud for several long minutes. A symptom of Junkyivitis is having more than 50 items posted on CW. We are like a leper colony, all crammed into one place

I would say many of us only have the milder form JUNKtolosis, this is easily managed when you have the ability to discern quality items. One must be careful to watch for symptoms of the progression of this ailment as it affects the eyes first & you lose you ability to distinguish quality items from things like napkins, fast food containers used Tupperware with no lids etc.

It's great Amber... I think I have a small oval ashtray by him. Everything I find seems to have damage lately and it's worse when it's the good stuff. I buy it anyway as long as it's a little nick or chip and not totally trashed.
    13. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
such a pity for the chip... but i'f you've found one already, you my find more ;)
    14. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Mike, I try not to buy chipped goods. Obviously I will if it is "subtle" chip. But there is no coverup for this one. I did learn about the Aladdin series which is very cool...so I guess that is worth the buck.
Austro, been back there twice (close my house) looking for the rest of the series.
Unfortunately I am not much of plate person. I which the same graphics were on postcards.
      Again...love the pitying loves!

What a fantastic image on that plate, it makes me feel as if I could float in space with them. The convo about thrifting illnesses cracked me up. I have two strange items hidden in the back seat floorboard of my car, because I am embarrassed I bought them, and don't want my family to know. There they sit, seven months later.
    16. walksoftly walksoftly, 11 years ago
@ Fentonia you have it bad, step #1 is admitting that you have a problem. You should get them out of your car & post them under the title JUNKtivitis, we are supportive & will understand;-)

I have a few damaged pieces, but I still love them! i guess I can relate, being also damaged.
