I actually thought this might be a Christmas ornament when I first spied it at Salvation Army this morning. It's light as a feather and in perfect condition. Amazing for it's being so fragile. Turns out these are hand made and very collectable. Created by Rene Burri and his wife at their studio in the Swiss Alps. It even still has it's original label. They come in a variety of colors and sizes. This one is only about 4" tall. You do seem to see a lot more chickens and not as many roosters with their elaborate tails. -Mike-

    René Burri Glass Chickens

From his glass studio in the in the Swiss Alps, René Burri works
together with his wife and several apprentices to create his whimsical
line of glass chickens and other animals. René uses a glass technique
know as "Lampwork" to handblow each piece. He starts with a hollow
tube of clear glass. Colored pigment is brushed onto the glass to
create the beautiful color striations and marbling effects. The tube is
then heated before a gas torch and René blows and forms the desired
object by hand creating a truly unique gift.
