Found this little 4 1/2" covered dish at Salvation Army. It appears to have some age to it looking at the bottom and the glaze is finely crazed inside and out. I almost thought it was a piece of Nippon but it has no mark only some hard to read numbers stamped in the bottom. It's all hand painted in Egyptian themes in black on a yellow background. We have the Sphinx, the Pyramids and palm trees along with a few figures and an animal cart. It had a handle at one time which is now missing. Other than being a possible souvenir I have no clue as to the make or age. -Mike-

Thanks czechman... My thought was it probably had a paper or foil label for Japan or whereever it came from.

I agree with Czechman, it is probably MIJ. The Czech versions are very similar, but as pointed out, the lid is flat. I haven't seen one that hasn't been marked if it were Czech.
