This is the second vase by the same unkonw maker we've got.

This vase shows a more geometric shape than the first floral one. In fact I see it very in the style of Van de Velde... It has a glossy finishing and is mounted on patinated bronze. The design on the mounting also shows shapes that reminds me of Belgian or Dutch Art Nouveau. It's a pretty recent add on to Carlos's colection and the seller really said nothing about it. So we've got a total mistery here. Just like the other vase is, this one's fully marked and, once again, unsigned, and bears no visible mark on the mounting.

A funny thing about this vase is that it could work fine without the bronze mounting, whereas the other one with the floral mounting, couldn't possibly work without it.

We do believe the the pottery work comes from the same potter, and probably the mountings would come from different workshops (just guessing here).

Do these images ring any bell for anyone???

Ah ha! I was wondering who my competition was for this piece! Great taste! I have no clue who produced it, though I strongly suspect it is German…particularly given its origins in the sale/auction. The mount is very Jugendstil.
    8. fledermaus fledermaus, 11 years ago
Fantastic Jugendstil! May be Otto Schulz?
    9. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
Well, cogito, if you were after it too that means this vase is a great piece!!! :)

Really thinking about the Otto Schultz/Eckmann possibility, as well as probably Eugene Baudin, but they always signed their pieces...

Thanks bratjdd, GTMOOM, DrFluffy, fledermaus, cogito, valentino and vet for your love!

You flatter me...dangerous to feed my ego. ;)
Seriously, though, I'm going to scout out what I can find on these pieces. It is helpful that you have multiple examples. The "R" likely references the manufacturer, while the form designs are likely by others. Any markings on the mounts?
BTW - they are definitely not by Baudin.

Very nice austro I can't help ID it you all are teaching me about glassware but I see shapes and my mind visualizes objects and I thought of a robot when I saw the first photo of this wonderful piece :-)
    13. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
      Thanks for Mani and Smiata!

@cogito: the onñy marking on the mounts are the numbers you can see on piv No.4... part from that, there's no marking at all.

      A robot? :)

Sorry I missed the first pass on this one. What an interesting meld of the industrial mounting and the more traditional pottery. I don't know if I am thinking German because of that or because it is being discussed.
      Hope you are feeling better!
Woke up to yet another snowstorm raging. Not going to be a fun day.
    17. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
I don't think the mounting is that industrial, ony it uses "modern ways" to join the pieces ;)
Everything points out they're either Belgian or most probably German... but I wish someone could find some really helpful hint about them :)
