I have this thing about art pottery, I always buy it hoping it'll be good because my father had a lot of success with it. Finally paid off today though. Harding Black, 1912-2004. 6.5" in diameter, 4" tall. Great looking piece too, I see his plain pieces are bringing a lot. Sweet...
Hey Bratjdd, I actually JUST found it too, on the same link you posted in fact. I edited the page just now lol. Thank you very much for taking the time to look for me, that was very nice : )
Note to self, look for H Black...new to me. I pick up all the studio ones too, particularly if I like the glaze.
Guess I got auto corrected from Blair to Black. Need to read my text before I submit.
Yeah I have a bad habit of buying studio pottery... Its just you can never read the darn signatures!!!! Come on people!! Why can't we spell our names so people can read them!!! Lol... I really hate that about art pottery, 99% of the signatures are COMPLETELY illegible. This one had ref numbers, an early date, came the estate of a Jewish doctor, and a legible signature, so I had to take a chance.
Anyway... Yes, definitely look for Harding Black! One smaller than mine sold for $747, and an 10" one sold for over $1,100.
great find! some of his glazes are recognizable even w/out seeing the signature [which always looks like this, as far as i know].
Thanks Ho2!
