I saw this last week at GW and it's price tag color changed to half price over the weekend. This 10" bud vase was in very nice condition with very little wear on the gilding. So I bought it. Then I tried to remove the price tag on the base and disaster ! Yes, I was very careful because I know the sticker can lift the gilding but it didn't help. I minimized it by using goo gone which floated the tag off, but the edges still caught some of the gilding. It could have been much worse. Why do they tag these pieces on gilded surfaces !! Maybe I can buy some gold leaf and touch it up or just leave bad enough alone. It has beautiful enameled violets at the top. There is a clear label with a lion or griffin and what look like VR in capital letters. The vase itself looks like an old style but the clear label indicates a newer vintage probably 60's. Just seems odd to me since clear plastics wouldn't have been around till the 40's-50's and it should be paper or foil if it were old. I don't know for sure if it's Bohemian or Czech but it appears to be that style. It "was" a great find until the sticker fiasco. -Mike-
Thanks Jay :)...Guess I should be glad they didn't write on it with a permanent marker like they used to. The clear bottom portion of the vase would have been fine an easily readable. I also hate it when they wrap tape around a whole piece with a lid. Same problem, painted designs or gilding pulls off. Unless you think ahead to use a heat gun or blow dryer very carefully. I think I'll mention it the next time I'm there. They know me pretty well by now...lol -Mike-
I was going to recommend bringing it to their attention. Because I have to crash everything LoL I remove stickers by running hot water over them and/or soaking then in hot water with dawn dish detergent in it. Hair dryer works great on items that cannot get wet.
Crash? My Swypo is getting stranger and stranger. Crash = Wash
,Aim they really need an "edit" option for the comment boxes. Can't tell you how many "typos" I've made were I've had to copy and delete, then paste the corrected one back. I didn't actually think you broke your imperfect pieces...lol -Mike-
Stunning mike!!!! I understand about the thrift!!!!
I've heard the crashes too Val .... I don't even want to imagine :(
