I bought this piece about 15 years ago. I just liked it because it was so unusual. It is 2"x2" It is set in Sterling, but don't know what it was carved from, doesn't have the pattern of ivory. I haven't been able to find out much information on what the wording on the back is except that it is not Japanese, probably Chinese. Any help is appreciated.
After looking at pictures of Ivory, I think it could be - I am used to seeing the more cross hatched look of Ivory. I appreciate your comments on what I may have. I have looked for years trying to find something like it, and have had no luck.
That is what I have to figure out - is how to sell it. I think since it is pre-ban, that it can be sold within the U.S.? I need to pull out all records I have of my purchase, but I don't have a lot to go on.
hahaha you did very well , see the drooping ears
this is probably a guite well noh mask netsuke of Ebisu typically depicted smiling with large earlobes and tall hat, he is one of the Seven Japanese lucky gods, the god of fishermen & luck
congrats Waki
