Hello: I'm researching this Dean Fabric Tape Measure for the MacPhee House Community Museum, Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia. I'm looking for information about the manufacturer. I know the name is DEAN, and that the company was in the E2 district of London, England for some time. The tape dates from the early 1940s through 1950s (from my personal memory, it was my mother's - the only one she had IIRC.)
Do you know if DEAN still is in business? All the searches I do just return eBay items!
Was the company absorbed into some other firm? If so, who? When?
When was DEAN established? (I know from an Australian source that a DEAN tape was bought by a tailor in New South Wales in 1918)

Many thnaks for any help you can give.

Just a further thought. The full company name for DEAN would be helpful - and that was "Thanks" rather than "Thansk"! LOL

Dean tape measures was started by my 3xgreat grandfather Edward Dean in1850. He started working with his father who was a carpenter making builder's measures and then became a "measure maker". He was joined by a partner called Lerro who added his name to Dean until he died and it reverted to Dean. I think Edward's son William then ran the company. It was taken over by Stanley in the 1980s. I hope this answers your query.
