I´ve recently and by accident :-) fallen in love with mexican silver jewelry as I bought my first piece at a net auction, and it was a brooch/pendant. Now I´ve just bought this mexican necklace that I love. It´s made in Taxco and it is stamped sterling 925 ATA and eagle 3. The weight is 137 grams. It looks hand made but I´m not an expert so I can´t be sure. Where I live in the world there aren't meny collectors of mexican silver. I´ve never met one so I hope for help this way. I wish to know who made it if possible, how old it might be and what style it is? Do you think it´s hand made? It´s already dear to me but it would be nice to know if it might have any value. Greatful for any information and ideas.
Thankyou for love aghcollect!
It is a very beautiful piece.

Stunning necklace. Great photos as well.
Speaking as a bloke I don't normally look too hard at jewelry but this is beautiful. The photography is excellent as well.
Thankyou Aimathena, Vetraio50, Gracay2004! Thankyou for the page you refered to Vetraio50, great to know of even if I didn't find any answers there this time. I'm still hoping :-).
Unfortunately I didn't take the photos myself, they are great I agree :-).
Thanks to VanessaT, Dr Fluffy, PadmeLupin and Newtimes!
I've seen the ATA mark a lot actually, but unfortunately no one seems to have been able to concretely tie it to a particular smith. I lent my book on Mexican silver to my father, so I don't have it with me to double-check.
The eagle mark indicates that it was made between 1946 and 1979, but I can tell from the design that it was made in the 1950's. Unfortunately for research purposes, 3 was the number used by the most number of smiths, you see it on most Taxco pieces, and it was also a generic mark for Taxco. Mexican silver assay marks are very confusing and nonspecific, and the paper records don't exist anymore. Regardless of who made it, it is a fantastic necklace, a classic representation of 1950's Mexican silver jewelry. The quality is as good as the best smiths like Aguilar or the Pinedas.
I found a list of smiths that used the 3, if I were you, I would Google Images of examples of each of the people listed here and try to find the same or similar design in one.

Thankyou Stillwater for your time and knowledge! I,m so greatful! I´m happy to hear that it´s from the 50´s as I was hoping for something like that. I´m also glad that you think it´s of good quality. I've only just started collecting silver and this feels like a good start. I will do some more research by using the information you so kindly gave me. Thankyou! I´ll keep this `mystery´open just incase somebody happens to know the silversmith or have something with the same ATA stamp to share. Who ever made it did a wonderful job. I´ve worn it twice and eventhough it's heavy it's still comfortable, and graceful I think.
Thanks to BelleEpoque, Perfumer, Racer4four, SHEAN68 for your love!
Thanks also to Woman34, getthatmonkeyoutofme and mackay1st! I´m glad you loved it :-)
Thanks sarahoff! I haven't forgotten your danish Christensen pendant! I still love it :-).

ho2cultcha thanks!
Lots of thanks to Nutsabodas6:-)!!
I wouldn't call anyone nuts but if you mean 'nuts about collecting' like the rest of us that's something else :-)
i'm no expert in mexican silver, but i thought of Hector Aguilar's work as soon as i saw this piece.
Thankyou for coment ho2cultcha, sorry for late respons. Yes I know. This is still a mystery. The pattern seams to have been used by more than one. I'm still investigating :-). But even so this necklace is my absolute favourite. It's so well made and wearing it is a Joy and it's always something to talk about as people see it and asks about it. Thankyou for stopping by!
BHock45 thanks!
an elegant and interesting design, I admire it greatly.
Thank you very much Budek for stopping by and paying attention to my ring and this necklace. Yes there is great craftmanship in this necklace I think, I love wearing it.
Thanks peasejean55!
Thanks blingiton 1948
if not made by Hector Aguilar, this was definitely made in the style of his work.
Thankyou Valentino97 for love! Nice of you to find this old post of mine.
Ho2cultcha thank you so much for your nice coment!
Love, love this piece!!! I just saw you posted it awhile ago. Did you ever find the info you were looking for?
Looks older to me and I know jewelry from Taxco can be quite valuable...but it's so gorgeous!!!
Thank you so very very much Shareurpassion! It warms my heart that you take interest in this. I am still looking but since I got the advice I've seen the same modell of bracelet marked ATA again and that said 1940's. I've also seen it once marked 'ballesteros'. I think this might have been a popular modell that was made my more than one of the well known silversmith 'houses' and that they had individual Smiths conected to them, some might have done the same modell in their own shop? I've been reading about this but not about ballesteros. I'm still on the look out for more information about and hope that one day someone has a similar piece with ATA and some more mark or an articel that can give me a clue. I so love this piece! When I wear it it makes even the plainest dress special and there is always someone who asks about it. That's a good thing as I'm sometimes shy with new people, it makes me talk and it solves everything! Thanks for your always so nice and interesting coment.
I ment that the ballesteros one had no ATA mark and no other 'silversmith' mark, just Ballesteros.
Thanks Betty1978!
Thanks Shareurpassion!
Thankyou very much CindB!
Thankyou very much Jewels and kyratango!
For those interested I've seen this design in two bracelets marked 'Los Ballesteros' but without ATA. The search goes on....
Thankyou CindB! This is my favourite necklace of all. I'm planning to wear it Tonight (new years even). Happy new year!
Thankyou very much CindB! Some was given to me by relatives as a young girl, others I have
bought at auctions and secondhand shops, always on a small budget. I keep an eye open all the time for things that I find special, if I'm lucky it's not popular by others at the same time :) and I can manage to bye them.
That's right CindB, two peas :) I'm happy to hear you can also relate to my text.
Thanks Jewels, kyratango, DrFluffy and amphorapottery!!!!
Celebratin, I've enjoyed CW and fellow collectors post for one year and posted a 100. This is my very first post. Thanks!
Thanks Racer4four and antiquerose!
Posted this two years ago but it's difficult to find out who made it. Is there someone out there who has a similar necklace by ATA or another piece of jewelry with that makersmark from Mexico?

Posted this 6 years ago but it's difficult to find out who made it. Is there someone out there who has a similar necklace by ATA or another piece of jewelry with that makersmark from Mexico?
I had a pair of earrings in a very similar design, also Mexican, and I was able to identify them. This is great quality, from the top silversmiths as has been already said. Margot de Taxco was my ID. Mine also had the curved bands and beads at each end.
Simply Marvelous.
Truthordare sorry for late answer, I only just now saw your message. Thanks for your coment. Wish I could see your earrings and the marks on them, very interesting!
Thankyou also Lata for your nice coment. This is still one of the best finds I have made.
