It is a "portrait vase" -- I can't read your mark -- can you?

Watch ebay for very similar items:

Darn -- I should have guessed Warwick! You beat me to it.

Warwick China company was located in Wheeling, West Virginia -- 1884-1951. I am pretty sure it is transfer-ware, not hand painted.

It's still called a vase, even though it is a pitcher or ewer shape -- meant to be decorative, not functional.

Watching the search term "Warwick -Weller" in the ebay Art Pottery category is your best bet to track values of similar pieces. Weller Pottery had a Warwick pattern, but Warwick China is a separate company.

      Here's the ebay link: http://pottery-glass.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=warwick+-weller&_sacat=27&_odkw=warwick&_osacat=27&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313

Check your library for this book about Warwick China -- http://www.amazon.com/Warwick-China-John-Sr-Rader/dp/076431016X

This just in -- IOGA Ware is the name of the line of Warwick pieces.

Some were hand painted, some were transfer ware.

wow you are good,,, and a million thank yous.... as I look at it, i am pretty sure it is a transfer, coming from a un trained eye.. I would like to sell it, but I also don't know how to go about that either.. and also that blue vase you replied to me about... I have spent endless hours,/days trying to find info on these 2 items,
with no avail...so I sure appreciate your help... thank you, thank you!!!!!

p.s. do you think that parisian in script is a signature???? would that mean it is signed???
    9. Bill, 14 years ago
The script impressed markings on the bottoms of Warwick IOGA items are the names of the shapes. The markings in red mean 2 things - the letter is for the background color and the number is for the decoration.
