A break from the PC's to return to another of my favourite design pieces.
Three years ago now I posted my small matte white Gustavsberg 'Pungo' vase on CW. It was designed by Stig Lindberg in 1953. It was bought in Bondi Junction about five years ago and remains a favourite object. The marks at the bottom are: 'GUSTAVSBERG', an anchor and 'SWEDEN' impressed. When I bought the vase there was also a part gold sticker which had the same info plus the studio "hand" and Carrara/Stig Lindberg.
Last Tuesday I was in an op shop and looked carefully around the shelves and I found a nice WMF dish and thought I had had my fill for the week. I went to the front of the shop for another check of the shelves and I found this on a shelf I had checked just minutes before. It can't be? It was! I had finally found the harlequin pair to the smaller white vase.
An elegant form.
How do they do it?
It was actually a very dark brown rather than the black I had expected from the photos on the net.
Slightly different in shape to the smaller version.
It is marked with the circular impressed Gustavsberg Anchor Sweden mark.
Height: 19.5 cm. or 7.7"
There is an even larger one too!
How long will it take to to find it?
Stig Lindberg (August 17, 1916 in Umeå, Sweden–April 7, 1982 in San Felice Circeo, Italy) was a Swedish ceramic designer, glass designer, textile designer, industrial designer, painter, and illustrator.
1962 Gold Medal at the First International Ceramics Festival in Prague.
One of Sweden's most important postwar designers, Lindberg created whimsical studio ceramics and graceful tableware lines during a long career with the Gustavsberg pottery factory. Stig Lindberg studied painting at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design. In 1937, he went to work at Gustavsberg under Wilhelm Kåge. In 1949, he was named Kåge's successor as art director. From this period until he left Gustavsberg in 1980, he designed individual ceramic items, as well as factory produced ranges and lines of dinnerware. He achieved fame for his eccentric forms and whimsical decoration. In 1982, he died due to a myocardial infarction. (Wikipedia)

Beautiful! What is an op shop?,
I’m guessing a charity shop? I love that you share your info with everyone!
A great pair Kevin! It's a very sophisticated shape - and the simple glazes work that.
You have got me feeling better about missing stuff now. I always have to troll at least twice because I seem to miss the understated gems the first few times.
Many thanks Mary and Karen.
Here in Australia we use clipped expressions like 'op-shop' - it is short of 'opportunity shop'.
These days I have to be more careful about looking for things. The eyes are starting to fade to a blur. I need to feel objects carefully too to check for condition. In the 'old days' I would be in and out of a shop in two minutes. These days it has become 'festina lente'.
Many thanks GARY!

Thank you...did you get it!
I know exactly who you meant. Living as I did in the 70's and the period of the gong.
I just use my phone camera. A Morotola 5 megapixels. I put them on the edge of my cabinet under some halogen down lights above the cabinet ( five ) and sometimes with light coming in through the windows. I download them onto the Apple and sometimes fiddle with them using their quickfixes.
The angles on the pictures I have tried to copy from Botterweg Auctions in Amsterdam. I still think their photos are the best on the net without going to the Quittenbaum and Christies professionals.
This is what I mean:

I am deeply excited by your Scandinavian influenced and made purchases. My godfather Hans Snelleman, a very good skier, instructor and diplomat from Holland was a source during my childhood of the regions finest work. . When growing up we would visit his amazing house in Eaglemont designed by Peter McIntyre and now listed by Heritage Victoria and filled with the most amazingly designed glass and stoneware by inspiring artists from Holland and the greater Netherlands area. I've watched yours, Sean's and others for several months now post some fantastic items of Swedish and other region artists and I just had to tell you what this has meant to me to see...I don't know much, in fact nothing about the designs, the best, the worst but with yours and Sean's guidance I am discovering and learning...
Thank you ....Anne
sorry Anne ....
Thanks ANNE!
