Commonly mistaken for Bitossi, this bull was made by Jema Holland 1960s, and probably as a direct attempt to cash in on Bitossi's success.
Jema produced ceramic items from the 40s to the 80s, in a very diverse range, but mainly in finely designed and European style figurines, with great detail and high glazes. You may have seen some of their popular clocks, with porcelain tigers, or horses or fish surrounding them. You might also have seen some of their mad cats.
This style of item was only produced for a short period and is very unlike other Jema, but they were having financial difficulties in the 60s and might have been trying something new to increase revenue.
This boy is big, 38cm long, and about 18cm wide and tall, and marked Jema to the base. He has had a dehorn and repair at some stage (prior to me) but he's rareish so I'll keep him!
Fantastic!
