(584 items)
I've got a lot -and I mean A LOT- of pictures of design stuff to be published here, plus all of Carlos's, which I honestly admit there's a percentage of I absolutely ignore....
I don't follow a rule on what to show and tell at CW. I usually work on the pictures -there's always a little photoshop work on them such as whitening the background or improving the contrast within the image- and tell myself "this is the next item I'll share", but then I totally forget about them (and there's even a lot of already written texts I will eventually copy and paste here :) ).
Sometimes new items arrive and I decide to post them as soon as possible, and sometimes I do because someone else has shared the same or a simmilar design and I gave an input about it, which is just what happened with these jugs. Sean shared his yesterday ( http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/117448-tapio-wirkkala?in=user ) and i told him about a smaller version of it, so here i am sharing it.
The Ultima Thule series is one of my favourites amongst Wirkkala's work. Maybe because i was born in the very same year they were designed, 1968 :) or maybe just for the amazing work he made with it.
The Ultima Thule range has always been one of Wirkkala's most succesful designs and in fact this series is still in production, but only a very few designs from it are. These jugs, as well as the non ice-lipp pitcher, the candleholder, the votive, a deep bowl, the creamer and sugar bowl set, the beer mug and some glasses... (well, here you can see the actual Ultima Thule stuff they're under production at the moment: https://www.iittala.com/Series/Iittala/Ultima-Thule/c/Ultima%20Thule ) the only one's i haven't got are the goblets and footed glasses, and there is a rare bottle and another bowl I've never been able to buy because of reaching high prices on auctions.
Stunning austro!!!
It's such a beautiful design! But remember you shared it first ;)
Beautiful photography too.
I was told that this design was meant to look like melting ice.
Okay, I'll get my bowls up so we can have an Ultima Thule Festival!
Awesome!!!

Very nice Austro.....Wow everyone is finding these now ! Thanks Sean :)
Mike... I totally forgot about yours!!!
UTh was so popular I guess it's out there for all of us to find it!!! :)
I actually rescued mine during my home-packing (still in process, of course). They'd been forgotten for too long in boxes under my mother's big armoire. The pictures are pretty recent because i've always had trouble taking good pics of the series with white background :/
Thanks icollect, Fluffy and lass!!
these are so great they have been on my wish list for awhile now
