Found this wonderful and heavy 8 1/2" diameter x 7" tall cobalt blue bowl at the Cleveland GW today. I usually only go out that far about once a month. So it's always nice to come home with something from that long trip. The color is so bright you have to wear shades ! A beautiful intense blue drip glaze that turns a speckled azure through the middle of the bowl. It has a simple pedestal form that doesn't compete with the color. My guess is it's not that old. It does have a tiny gold and black foil label inside the hollow pedestal. It has a couple of characters and "Japan" written on it. A translation might reveal the maker but I'm not sure. -Mike-
OK ... been looking at a bunch of "kanji" and the first character on the label appears to be "East". Working on the second one at this point.
It is very beautiful Mike. The shape...and that glaze!!
Is this Kyoyaki you think?
Thanks racer4 :) I'm not familiar with Kyoyaki but it gives me something to research. I'll have to check it out. -Mike-
