Another lovely old piece of Moorcroft given to my parents a s a wedding gift from my great aunt.
This little vase is in the style Anenome, designed by William Moorcroft. This pattern was made for quite a long time from 1928 to 1949, but again I am fairly sure it was made in 1928. Note that it is now stamped "Potter to the Queen". My great aunt bought this at the same time as the Pomegranate vase, dated 1928.
The colour on this vase is very subtle and varies from later ones I have seen. The ground moves from green to brown which is unusual for this design. I love how subtle it is! Notice that the slip (or slurry) has more definition on this vase than my Pomegranate vase.
It's a little one, only 84mm tall.
The older Moorcroft is just wonderful!
You're right. I can remember it as a kid being in Dad's dresser and I used to sneak in and look at it. He must have known how much I loved it because he gifted it to me quite a while ago. I think later Moorcroft just isn't as appealing as this very early stuff.
You are so lucky !
