This small bowl was a gift to me from my mother in law. I was happy to receive it!
The design is called Magnolia, and was designed by William Moorcroft's son, Walter who started at the factory in 1935. There was a crossover period when father and son worked and designed together at the factory but Walter was responsible for design and management from 1945 until 1984.
Magnolia has been in production since the 1950s, and the design has been used on everything from plates and bowls to lamps and clocks. Essentially it has remained unchanged except that the ground colour has varied.
This bowl is accurately dated to 1998. The backstamp shows an iron, which was the symbol for 1998..
Not as appealing to me as early Moorcroft, this bowl has quite defined slip and the colours are much more intense. Very pretty though, and I love that a Moorcroft piece is clearly hand painted, and all vary slightly.
120mm wide.
Thanks Kevin and Aim!!!
That's impressive. love it :)
Sweet!
Thanks Mike!
I think I am in the minority but I prefer this colour to the darker colours, perhaps because we don't see quite so much of it.
So reminds me of Spring
Good on you William! We all have our own taste, thank the gods!
AR clearly stateside's winter has been appalling because everyone is focused on spring! Hope it arrives soon. And thanks!
