We found these dolls in a house clean out, so no known history. They are of Bisque or porcelain. Their clothes is in good shape and looks to be velvet,taffeta and felt.clothes look like handstitched. There are hairline cracks throughout the bodies. They are the length of a pencil. The bottoms of their feet have stickers that say Germany on them. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
Your dolls are Hansel and Gretal . It is hard to tell from Photo if face is celluloid or plastic but it is not bisque, The cracks are more like scratch marks as celluliod is easy to break and also was stopped being used because it would burn easy . The German companies made these for tourists and they date around 1940. There maybe a mark on body on their back but don't remove clothes . to look . They are very nice and since so many companies made them hard to know which one without knowing if they have a symbol on body like a turtle ect that Id's the company . Are they very light in weight in your hand ?
Is there a turtle on back of necks which are made by German Company SCHILDKROT and are most common marks on these types of dolls
Thank you Manikin. I couldnt find any marks. They sound like china when tapped together.They are not real light in weight. Do you know anything more? Thank you so much.
They are heavy celluloid I can tell when blow them up , There is a soft celluloid but also a heavy one . They are thick celluliod I am sure :-) and it does break easy so be careful :-) The old celluloid was thick adnd heavy not just the think kind ,
