I am trying to see if this victorian oak sideboard is worth anything. Any advice as to how to how to restore two handles to the cabinets on the sides of the drawers or where to start to find a buyer if worth anything. I was told by an auctioneer that folks are not really collecting anything made out of oak anymore so I am debating whether or not to keep the sideboard. Anyone have any thoughts? Respectfully, Jbell.
I love it. If I was close enough I would seriously consider buying it. But I am sure you are in the US and I am in Canada.
I found one of these in REALLY rough condition, yours is in far better, a sold it to an antique dealer who restored it and then sold it, mine was missing one of the pedestals to hold up the mirror and he had to make one. If your in Cali I can give you his info
Be sure to check ALL inside of it, including the under-sides of the drawers and cabinet. We had one of these at our heritage farm, but with a taller upper. After my mom married my dad in the 40's and moved to the farm, she did spring cleaning, including removing all the drawers. Attached on the back of the upper 3 drawers were envelopes which contained approximately $2500 of U.S. currency (we live in Canada). It must have been a stash from my either my Great GP's, or GP's (deceased by the 40's) that no one knew about. I have no idea what years the bills were.
