Breweriana…
(70 items)
I bought this tin Sunshine Beer Sign last night up in the coal regions of Pennsylvania from a guy who said he used to own a bar and a beer distributor back in the old days. It isn't a tin over cardboard but it appears to be tin wrapped over tin. The sign is in near perfect condition and I've never seen one like it before. The bottles on the sign read "Sunshine Barby's Inc." which I know was a brewery in Reading, PA and later became the Sunshine Brewing Company.
Does anyone know anything about this sign? I'd like to put an approximate date on it, the rarity of the sign, and any other facts that you might know about it.
After a bit of research and talking to other collectors and dealers, this sign was made for Barbey's Sunshine Beer. The sign is actually pretty rare especially in this condition, besides the dart hole in the center of the sign it's nearly flawless for it's age. This sign is highly sought after by collectors because they are so rare. From my research of local collectors I only know of 4 examples of this sign in other collections. I'm really glad to have this sign in my collection! :)
On a side note: According to a collector I spoke with, Barbey's Inc. also made a calendar version of this sign which is ultra rare. That gives me something else to keep my eye out for.
