Here's a Danish vase I don't know much about. Can't find exactly this design and as don't know much about Danish pottery would appreciate anyone could help me identifying it.

The signature at the bottom is half covered as it still bears the original seller's sticker (although it was actually bought at a street market in Rome).

Can anyone help me with it?

    (21 hours later)

Mystery solved! I sent an email to a couple of my Danish glas dealers (this "dealering" them makes them sound like they were selling drugs to me... at some point they've done, LOL) and Ulla wrote me back within no time with this info:

"The potter/artist is Helge Østerberg, who established his studio at Virum (North of Copenhagen) in 1943. He was a well respected artist at the time and absolutely not forgotten today.

He used stoneware clay and mixed it with chamotte to get a rustic character, underlined by "primitive" decorations and discreet use of glazing."

His work is marked with the Scandinavian letter Ø from his surname :)

Agh, Sean, thanksn very much!!! I've tried almost any name and I've never found it :/ I think Jensen might know, even if this is a bit out of his collecting era. Will ask him to take a loom at it ;)

Your so right austro!!!! I have to say this is a keeper and a stunner as well , stunning find!!!!!

I am really sorry; this signature is not familiar to be. It is definitely not Saxbo, though - and it looks 1950's or may 1960's to me. It appears to have been sold from a shop in central Copenhagen (the address given on the label).

    11. jensen jensen, 11 years ago
Yes, it reads 'Otto Jensen's ...dealer' (probably 'Art dealer'), Bernstorffsgade 4 (address) and then the telephone central Byen '('City') and the phone no. The telephone centrals were discontinued in the 1970's...

Woooow, thanks Sean!!! I hope someone can tell us what it is... I never toght it would be this hard to identify this piece :)

Jensen, thanks too! Yes, i really think this must be from around 1960... at least we know it was sould by the 1970s :) I've just checked the shop was by the main railway station.

I just checked where the shop was -unfortunately it's not there anymore- and was fantasizing about a Italian tourist buying the vase at this shop just by the Railway Station, but then i remembered Carlos told me he bought it from this guy who sold mostly Danish stuff in a fleamarket in Rome :(

He purchased some Aksini stuff from him too . I'll try and post it soon :)

Actually, the signature could very well be 'OJ', right? Maybe Otto Jensen commissioned a pottery to deliver vases etc. and then they were sold under his / the shop's name...
    19. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
So he would work like the Delvaux shop in Paris, commissioning items and selling them with their own name... it could be an option :) Still, it would be necessary to finf out whom they commissioned it to.

I've just sent emails to a couple of my "Danish dealers" just in case they know something about this vase. I hope I'll get good news from any of them!!! Let's cross fingers!!!
