Items found around the area of the battle of Williamsburg, Va. Bullets, Federal cuff button, and a Fed Navy button. Also an artillery Fragment. A loop to a Sword belt or cartridge box. And last is a small bit of harmonica.
Very cool! I've always wondered about metal detecting on Civil War battle fields. Do you need permission? I would LOVE to do it.
Well it depends on where you go. On the battlefield that is run by the park service you can't. You have to find places in and around the battlefield that is on private property and get permision from the land owner.
That's what I figured. I am in Minnesota so I am a ways away from any battle fields anyway lol
I here ya. It is very awsome though. Relic hunting is very big down here. There are so many places you can go around here. From your local drug store that sits on the battlefield to peoples back yards. You have to think, the majority of the Civil War was fought right here in Va.
Yeah. I was out that way about fifteen years ago. Would love to go again.
Gotcha, Full of history. From Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. There is just to much to see and do. Were there any battles with Native Americans in your part of the world or other history?
Yeah, funny you mention that. The Sioux Uprising in 1862. Two families in my ancestry lost all but one member of their families in the "battle". There is a plaque somewhere around here commemorating it. It was erected by one of the survivors.

That conflict had a big impact on a large part of Minnesota and Dakota Territory. My great great grandfather got caught up in it by chance. He was a new immigrant from Norway that had settled in Goodhue County in eastern MN. He Joined the Army thinking he would shortly be involved in the Civil War but when the uprising broke out he was sent to Ft. Abercrombie on the Dakota border, where the fort was under siege for weeks. My mother thought he was wounded there but I haven't found any record of that. After that he did end up heading south and was wounded at Nashville.
