I won this fabulous clock at auction in about 2007 in England, UK and has largely been restored and overhauled. Sadly, the calendar still does not quite make it on short months and will have to be looked at again by someone who knows more about perpetual calendar mechanisms.
The clock came with interesting provenance including a big red book - a bit like a 'This Is Your Life' one, listing all those who contributed to its purchase as a retiral gift to a gentleman in the 1800s. The presentation plaque was removed from the centre which was hiding the pendulum, so I still have the plaque somewhere, but wanted to show off the mercurial pendulum.
The clock only needs winding about every 23 days and has the biggest dial and bell I have seen on this type of clock.
I love the idea of a calendar 'knocking on' automatically at midnight, including short months and leap years as long as the clock is kept wound - ingenious. These are definitely one of my favourite clocks.
Incredible clock. Great 1st post! Welcome.
Hi racer4four
Many thanks. Yes, I was looking around at my favourite clocks on-line on my break doing overtime yesterday and came across this site by chance! Glad I found it.
Thanks for your kind comments.
