    Hi there,
In my collection is this fan, which is not in a too great state of conservation. However, it is most interesting in that the the two portions, the frame and illustration seem to have their origins in the early days of the Dutch influence in those Indonesian Islands. The bone carvings of the frame, one by one, constitute in total a picture of Indonesian houses, the flora, men and women of European origin as seen through the eyes of the locals in the 17th Century. On the other hand, the paper portion of the fan clearly illustrates a classic European picture of the period

Hello! This is an 18th century European fan, circa 1770s or 1780s. Though the leaf is heavily damaged, it looks like it could be an illustration of the bible story of Ruth meeting Boaz in the grain field. The carved and painted sticks and guards could be bone, but these fans were often mounted on ivory.
