Lets all play a game together: find the bakelite bangle!
Ok you guys, by now, it should be clear bakelite that hasn't had a treatment (like sanding) ISN'T WHITE!
So the black-WHITE polka dot ones are not bakelite.
In fact, the only bakelite one is the plain black bracelet.
I m still very proud of it though! Its my one and only black bakelite bangle I ever found!
Oh and Im also greedy: I let my mom wait for half an hour for a closed thrift shop door to get me the clear and black striped lucite bangle. I love it!!!
You know, there are other plastics besides bakelite that can be nice and worth it to be collected!
I m sorry, I just had to get this off my chest I guess...Too much fake bakelite posts here on CW were really getting me angry!
Cant they just get it? Bakelite should not be white!
    I guess I m all better now :-)
The black and white bangles were a present from my hubby. He clearly didn't get it, but thats ok :-) xxx

This thing about bakelite is new to me, haven't heard that it's big over here in the far north. Well it was used for all sorts of things way back, but it I didn't know it was used for jewellry. What period is it, the 50's? Interesting. All the bangles are beautiful and look great together.

Sorry, found the info here on CW, much earlier
Than I thought. It seams hard to tell bakelite from other similar materials.

Elisabethan, thanks for the compliment. I wasnt reffering to you, I hope you know that.
The striped clear lucite one is probably sixties, the plain bakelite could be anywhere from the twenties to the fifties. I think the black and white polka dot bangles could be more modern, like eighties or something like that.
I know it isnt easy to tell bakelite from other plastics, everyone makes mistakes and thats ok. But there is someone here just making post after post claiming materials to be something they are not. And thats just really frustrating after the 347th post! :-)

Hey Val, yes black is hardest to test but to my surprice this one just turned yellow in an instant when I tested it with simichrome!
I have loads of fakelite....I just put them in a box far far away and try not to think about them anymore :-)
Maybe I will post them here just to give some information to CW.

Awesome bangles. I adore all the plastics. From celluloid to lucite and bakelite. I just completely agree about being truthful about what it is. Simichrome! Lovcs it. And, I completely understand the irritation with the fake claims. I find it irksome on any kind of vintage or collectible jewelry. Due diligence isn't all that difficult.
